Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
MergedReality.com is an independent website about how technologies are merging, run from the United Kingdom. This page explains, in plain English, what information is involved when you visit and what we do with it.
Who we are
MergedReality.com ("we", "us") is responsible for the information described on this page. If you have any question about your privacy, email us at [email protected].
What information is involved
1. When you visit the site
Like every website, our host's servers automatically record basic technical details when your browser requests a page. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, and the date and time. Our hosting provider, IONOS, keeps these logs for a short period to keep the site running, secure and protected against abuse. We don't use them to identify you.
2. Fonts
The site's lettering is loaded from Google Fonts. When the page loads, your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address and browser details so they can send the font files. Google states that it doesn't use this to build advertising profiles. You can read more in Google's privacy policy.
3. The paint on the home page
The paint effect runs entirely inside your own browser. When you stir the paint or click to add colour, those movements are never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
4. When you email us
If you email us, including through the "Notify me" button, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you, or to let you know when new content launches if that's what you asked for.
Cookies
MergedReality.com doesn't set any cookies and doesn't store anything in your browser. That's why there's no cookie banner.
Why we use it (the legal bit)
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we must have a valid reason to use personal information. Ours are:
- Legitimate interests: to run the website, keep it secure, show it with the right fonts, and reply when you contact us.
- Consent: to email you about new content, only if you asked us to. You can change your mind at any time by telling us.
Who else sees it
We never sell, rent or trade your information. It's only handled by the services that make the site work: our web host (IONOS), Google Fonts, and the email providers that deliver and store our messages. We would only share it otherwise if the law required us to.
Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, they use the legal safeguards that UK law requires, such as approved data transfer agreements.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: kept by our host for a short period, then deleted automatically.
- Emails: kept for as long as needed to deal with your message. If you asked to be notified, we keep your address until you ask us to stop, then delete it.
Your rights
Under UK law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct it if it's wrong
- ask us to delete it
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example to stop update emails
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within one month.
Not happy? Please tell us first and we'll do our best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
MergedReality.com is a general-interest technology site and isn't aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
As the site grows (for example, with a news section), we'll update this page to reflect any changes and change the date at the top.
